Trout Fishing Methods

There are two main Trout Fishing Methods (three if you count the art of 'trout tickling'), one is the use of artificial baits and the second is the use of natural baits.

When using artificial baits as a Trout Fishing Method there are several things you can use.

The most common of these Trout Fishing Methods using artificial baits is, by a long way, FLY FISHING.

Fly Fishing is by far, the most popular of Trout Fishing Methods, used by millions of anglers throughout the world.

Some Trout Anglers, would argue that Fly Fishing is the most 'pure' Trout Fishing Method there is and they will not use any other Trout Fishing Method, no matter what the circumstances, for them its the fly or nothing!

There can be no doubt, that there is a certain rush of excitement and anticipation, as you see a large trout, rise to the fly you have just cast over the fishes head.

Artificial Flies come in two basic patterns, so they give you two types of Trout Fishing Methods. There is the 'Dry Fly' Trout Fishing and there is the 'Wet Fly' Trout Fishing!

A Dry Fly is made so that it floats and is used for fishing the surface of the water, a great time for this is when the Mayflies are emerging and all the fish are 'up-in-the-water' looking for food.

The Wet Fly is made so that it sinks, so it is targeting fish that are feeding below the surface of the water.

You may not be a 'Purist ' when it comes to using Trout Fishing Methods, you may just want to catch some Trout, in any way you can.

Using other artificial baits as a Trout Fishing Methods means you have a number of things you can use, instead of artificial flies.

Spinning or jigging a lure through the water is one Trout Fishing Method you can use. By varying the speed you retrieve the spinning lure, you hope to get a Trout to take a bite at it, as it flashes by.

Some lures are not made to spin, their action through the water is more erratic, like a wounded fish, so it looks to the Trout like it's onto an easy meal.

Trout Fishing Methods using artificial worms, artificial nymphs, artificial grubs and maggots etc are there for you to try your hand at.

All these artificial baits can have their good days and followers of these Trout Fishing Methods will catch their fair share of the available Trout on a particular water.

Some Trout Anglers, at times like to try their hand at using natural baits as a means to catch themselves some fish.

Trout Fishing Methods using such natural baits as worms, grubs etc, can be absolutely deadly on the right day and will account for a lot of fish.

Other natural baits to try are slugs, maggots , caterpillars , beetles , small frogs and even flies and they will on any given day, catch you some nice Trout.

Trout Fishing Methods using natural baits rely on natural presentation of the bait, to get the best results.

One great Trout Fishing Method using natural baits on moving waters, is to 'freeline' the bait down the swim. This as the name implies, means there is no weight attached to your fishing line, only the weight of the bait. So as you let out more line from your fishing reel, the bait is simply moved along by the current, pulling your fishing line behind it.

As the natural bait is taken downstream, it is pulled and pushed by the eddies, into gullies and holes where the large Trout are waiting for just such a thing to come along for their dinner.

This Trout Fishing Method is 'minimal fishing', very little tackle is required to have a really successful day Trout fishing.

You only need to carry as your main tackle, a fishing rod and a fishing reel loaded with line, a quantity of your favourite hooks in two or three different sizes and a landing net. A bag of odds and ends such as pliers and a knife and a bite to eat and something to drink and you are set for the day.

For a really satisfying days Trout Fishing Method, there is nothing better than to start off with no bait and to fish just with what you can find along the river banks and meadows.

In the early morning it is easy to find slugs, worms and maybe a small frog or two, which will get your day off to a good start.

You will need a small container to keep your newly found bait in, you don't want your fresh caught bait running away, now do you?

This Trout Fishing Method is not what the 'purists' would advocate, but if its for you, then it can be great fun and a really satisfying way of catching yourself some decent Trout!
