Carp Fishing Rods

Popular UK Carp Rods

Carp anglers today are truly 'spoilt for choice' when they decide to get themselves a new carp fishing rod.

There are a multitude of carp fishing rods to choose from with varying test curves and actions.

For most situations the test curve of your carp fishing rod will be between 2.5lbs to 3lbs. This range of test curves, will easily cast a weight up to 3.5 oz so long as the carp rod has a balanced action.

The test curve of a carp fishing rod, is how much force it takes to pull the assembled rod, round to a 90 degree angle to the butt of the rod.

This means that the higher the test curve figure, the stronger the carp fishing rod will be and able to cope with bigger fish.

Sometimes it is not only the size of the fish that needs a carp fishing rod which has a higher test curve, the amount of weed present in a water will have an influence too. With a lot of weed present, even moderate sized carp will be fighting above their weight, so your carp fishing rod has to be strong enough to overcome this problem.

The action of a carp fishing rod  is to some extent, more important than the test curve! A well balanced carp fishing rod will feel as though it's an extension of your arm, when you are playing a large fish.

There are two main actions for a carp fishing rod, you can have an all 'through action', where the carp fishing rod bends pretty much in a smooth arch, from the tip down to the handle. With a through action carp fishing rod you will be able to use lower diameter fishing line if you are fishing a 'hard water'. The softer action will give some protection to the fishing line.

The downside is that a carp fishing rod with a 'through action' will be limited, when compared to a 'fast-taper' action rod, on the distance you can cast.

If you need to cast really long distances, your carp fishing rod should have a 'fast-taper' action, which makes the rod more stiff, so you will be able to 'punch out' the weight a long way but you have to be more careful when playing large carp using lighter lines, as you can easily cause a line failure.

You can get some great deals when you decide to buy your newcarp fishing rod,  only you can decide the one that suits you best. Just try and balance your tackle so that it suits your own style.
